2022 Ford Maverick VS. Hyundai Santa Cruz

Ford has never been satisfied to rest on its laurels as the best-selling truck in the country. And with that mindset and focus on innovation, they will continue to lead the way for the truck industry. So when a consumer is looking for a truck, Ford is the easy choice. And so is a visit to Griffith Ford Uvalde to see the latest models and some fantastic deals on pre-owned trucks. Stop by to see the newest member of the Ford family, the 2022 Maverick, explore the features it has to offer compared to the Santa Cruz, the other small pickup on the market.

Size And Configuration

The 2022 Maverick comes in one body style for the best of both worlds. The crew cab provides four forward-hinged doors to allow easy access for five passengers. The box measured 4.5 feet and included tie-downs on the tailgate to accommodate more oversized items with the gate partially open. In contrast, the Santa Cruz bed measures only 4.3 feet, limiting its capacity and hauling capability. However, it is also a four-door cab with seating for up to five passengers.

The Engines

Both trucks offer two choices for the engine. The Maverick, however, includes a hybrid option that delivers exceptional fuel economy. The hybrid package consists of a 2.5 liter 4-cylinder that produces 162 horsepower with a 94-kilowatt electric motor and battery pack. The all gas option is a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder that puts out 250 horsepower. An 8-speed automatic transmission comes in all of the 2022 Mavericks.
The Santa Cruz also offers two engine choices, but neither is a hybrid. The first choice is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder that delivers 191 horsepower. The second is a 2.5-liter that is turbocharged and produces 281 horsepower. While the Santa Cruz does offer the top horsepower, it falls far short on fuel economy with a best offering of 23mpg. On the other hand, the Maverick hybrid can provide drivers with up to 40 mpg making a bold case for the hybrid option.

The Safety Technology

The Ford Maverick includes an advanced driving assistance system across the board. When you purchase the Lariat, you can include the Level 2 semi-autonomous driving package with adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and evasive steering. The Santa Crus offers similar safety features, but you need to move to a more costly model.

Coming Down To Dollars

Price is essential when you are searching for an economical truck. Ford meets that need with very reasonable pricing on the Maverick lineup. The three trim packages are standard to all Ford trucks, and the upgraded off-road package with the FX4 badging.
The base Maverick is $19,995 and tops out at $25,490. The Santa Cruz trims are the SE, SEL, SEL Premium, and Limited. The base price starts at $23,990 and jumps to a hard-to-swallow $39,720 for a loaded model. With no upgrades being unique to the Santa Cruz, the price difference is shocking.
